High-reflecting roofs help to combat inner city Heat Island Effect. Heat Island refers to the higher temperatures experienced in urban metropolitan areas in relation to the outer rural areas that surround the city. There are many contributions to Heat Islands but the most prominent is that of development of land surfaces and black rubber roofing on buildings act as heat absorbers adding to the problem.
